Description
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) in conjunction with the Illinois State Police implemented a pilot project to discover the viability of automated license plate and USDOT number reader technology as an enforcement and compliance tool and installed a fixed–site Automated License Plate Reader / Automated USDOT Reader (ALPR/AUR) system at the Maryville weigh station on Interstate 55 near East St. Louis and purchased a mobile system with similar characteristics installed in a van. The ALPR van is being used in conjunction with enforcement details in the Chicago region.
