Metra Positive Train Control

Description

Positive train control (PTC) is advanced technology specifically designed to automatically stop or slow a train before certain accidents occur. In particular, PTC is designed to prevent train–to–train collisions, derailments caused by excessive speed, unauthorized incursions by trains onto sections of track where repairs are being made and movement of a train through a track switch left in the wrong position. Currently planned to be completed by the end of 2020. This project covers all hardware, software and communications needed to implement this service. Next for Metra Electric Line. No dark territory remains. All lines have centralized train control (CTC). Estimated at $400 million in capital and $80 million for operations. PTC and Telecom manager will have 4 cameras per PTC signal group.
