Description

City of Chicago Department of Transportation is responsible for the construction operation and maintenance of the surface transportation system in the City of Chicago. CDOT's Division of Project Development is the planning and programming arm of the Department. CDOT's Division of Engineering designs and manages engineering improvements and projects whereas the Division of Infrastructure Management handles construction and construction oversight. CDOT's Traffic Engineering section designs and approves infrastructure improvements including geometrics and signal modernizations and timing. CDOT includes the Bureau of Streets, which is responsible for asphalt and concrete maintenance and the Division of Electrical Operations which is responsible for operating the city's traffic signal systems. CDOT's Public Right of Way Permit Office is responsible for issuing permits for the use or work in the public way. CDOT's Office of Underground Coordination (OUC) is responsible for all requests regarding existing utility information and the review/approval of construction work in or adjacent to the Public Way.
